Bluetooth technology for audio receivers has gained traction over the years as more and more hand held devices have good quality built-in Bluetooth audio profiles these days. Cell phones, tablets, some `MP3' players come with Bluetooth stereo audio feature.
The `Bluetooth audio' was initially designed to be used for wireless audio and data for low quality `voice audio' for headsets and microphones etc; But technological improvements over the years has refined the Bluetooth audio profiles further to an extent where it can now be used for Hi-fidelity 'CD' quality audio playback.
'Harman Kardon' is a respectable company who makes high quality audio products and it is clear from my tests that this Harman Kardon BTA-10 External Bluetooth Adapter has received the same level of excellent workmanship and quality. I am pleased to report that the product quality is very good. It comes with all needed cables and connectors for use with any home Audio receiver capable of Analog Audio input.
Paring & setup: Super easy!
I paired this BTA-10 with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1-Inch, Wi-Fi) and conducted my tests. The audio receiver used in the test was my old faithful Kenwood VR-804. While this audio receiver is `ancient' by most modern standard home theater systems it still packs a good punch with DTS / Dolby Digital Audio with powered sub-woofer and perfect for my tiny little home theater needs. I used the `Tape input' of my Audio receiver and connected Harmon Kardon BTA 10 via the provided Analog cables for the tests.
Bluetooth Paring was super simple. There are no buttons on the device. When you first apply power to BTA-10 all Bluetooth capable devices like tablets and cell phones are able to discover and pair with BTA 10 effortlessly. The BTA-10 goes into `discover-able' mode automatically (It stays in this 'pairing mode' while the blue LED slowly pulsates. Once the pairing is complete the Blue LED remains solid indicating a stable connection.
Audio Quality: Excellent audio frequency response
I am impressed by the excellent quality this Bluetooth Audio receiver delivered. No clippings, no over saturation of any sorts or muffling of sounds. Both the 'Low frequency' and 'high frequency' responses were faithful to the Audio files I was playing from my tablet. Better quality audio files will provide better quality sound. I attempted MP3 with 320 Kbps bit-rates and uncompressed WAV files and both sounded great on my audio receiver.
Range: Great range - Works with most hand held Bluetooth devices for over 10 meters.
I was even more impressed by the range it held with a steady connection. This is very important for Bluetooth devices and shows the quality of the device. It stays connected for extended periods of time and never hiccups or misses any beat. Pairs and connects fast with any tablet or cell phones. No problems in remembering the connection and reconnects with ease.
Power: Very Low power consumption & stays cool during extended operation
The BTA 10 barely gets warm. You can leave this powered ON indefinitely it does not consume any power at all. If you are paranoid you can connect this with the AUX power source of your audio receiver so that it comes ON when you switch ON your Audio receiver equipment.
