Simplehuman 6.5 inch Sensor-Activated Lighted Vanity Mirror

Simplehuman company who makes good quality innovative products. This sensor based vanity mirror is no exception. The LED lighted mirror is very handy to put makeup and construction quality is very good. But there are couple of issues that you need to be aware of in this model.

Firstly, the height is not adjustable which could potentially lead to back pain as one as to bend down on counter-top or table to apply makeup. SimpleHuman makes another counter-top model SimpleHuman Counter-top '5x Magnification', 8 inches at almost same price as this one which is reviewed here. That 'Counter-Top' model has slightly larger mirror size and most other features identical in all respects. Most importantly, that Counter-Top model's mirror adjusts 'up and down' and tilts back fully for a clear, comfortable view. In that Counter-Top model to adjust, simply hold the base and pull up on the neck in that way it can adjust to your required height, that feature could potentially reduce back-pain while doing make-up.

Secondly, the motion sensor LED lighting while convenient it also has issues wherein the duration of LED light when your face is not the mirror is too short. In my humble opinion it is annoyingly too short since all it takes is less that 6 seconds for the LED lighting to turn off when you face is not in front of the mirror. As you keep moving your face away from the mirror to take a look at your make-up items the LED lighting stops working and your eyes needs to adjust to the environment wherein it gets dark and bright and that is irritating experience. Since this model it does not have any means to permanently keep the LED lighting on while you use the mirror I consider this a major flaw. If the manufacturer is reading this review please ensure that the LED lighting stays on for more than 40 secs first time someone brings their face near the sensor.

Initially I was annoyed by the fact that the LED lighting keeps turning off under 5 seconds each time I moved my face away from the mirror I found that you can disable the automatic sensor by merely covering the sensor area by a black piece of electrical tape. Now the mirror's LED lighting can be controlled manually by the ON/OFF button in the back of the unit.

Granted that the quality of materials is excellent but in my humble opinion the price is too steep for a vanity mirror. Overall, if you can live with these two above mentioned issues and do not mind paying slightly more then it is decent vanity mirror which will serve it's purpose for years to come.
