Battery powered N Router model version 1 (TL-MR3040) was reviewed and here are my observations:
PROS
[+] Super compact Battery powered Wireless N router
[+] Excellent signal strength and connects at 150Mbps for a long range.
[+] Good GUI with help screens on the context you are trying to set.
[+] Can easily create a working N wireless network out of the box
[+] Good quality construction (Looks nice too)
[+] The internal battery can be replaced.
[+] The Unit can charge the phone while used on the USB slot
[+] Includes 1A Charger
CONS
[-] The modem compatibility for 3G/3.75G for various USA carriers is missing
[-] No support for sharing USB attached NAS as of yet - Badly need SMB support to share media.
[-] Some words on the help screens needs English proof reading.
The unit was attempted with Samsung Galaxy S III on Sprint carrier and the wireless router could not find a compatible Modem file. I looked for firmware updates on the TP-LINK website but there was no mention of any specific update for this type of phone. I attempted version TL-MR3040_V1_120822 on this battery powered router but could not get it to work with the modem present in Samsung Galaxy S III phone on Sprint.
I am sure the vendor will update the modem database to support popular phones that are currently out on the market but till then this product is OK hence 3 stars. The product otherwise deserves 4 stars for versatility of features and functions. Love the looks.
I will keep an eye on the firmware update pages on TP-LINK and If I find support for Samsung Galaxy S III I will update my review for the 3G/3.75G Modem capablities.
