This is by far the best solution available for people who would like to expand their laptop's storage without having to run out of USB 3.0 ports. The product was used with an old 1TB 9.5mm HDD and the Windows based laptop was able to recognize and install the necessary drivers automatically and gain access to the USB 3.0 hub ports and internal HDD without any issues. The HDD can be turned off by a switch which I consider a plus since most bus-powered devices can easily run out of available current which it draws from the USB port. The USB hub continues to work irrespective of the HDD switch position.
Having said, The main advantage over other enclosures on the market is that while the price is reasonable for a HDD enclosure it also provides 3 additional USB 3.0 ports for plugging in more USB 3.0 devices when needed. The enclosure works fine with USB Bus power if your HDD's power consumption is well within the USB power draw specs of 500 mAh. If your installed HDD draws more current then you will have to provide additional power by plugging in the additional USB power cable that is included in the package.
The performance is nice. The speeds are in line with USB 3.0 specs which is great for an 'all-in-one' USB hub/HDD enclosure.. All-in-all an excellent way to add additional storage and not run out of USB 3.0 ports on your laptop.
Side notes: The enclosure is all plastic and it does produce some heat especially if you have installed a platter based old HDD for example and won't be safe for long term usage. The USB 3.0 hub portion (Electronics) also generates some heat (Even when the HDD Switch is in OFF position) but not too much to get paranoid but worth mentioning. In the end while it could be of some concern I am not taking any stars off the review.
