I had opted out of older LCD TVs that were backlit by fluorescent CFLs for that one reason as they did not have any depth in color nor had deep blacks that you get from any Plasma TVs. I waited and looked at LED-backlit TVs but still it was not perfect yet for my viewing needs. I visited several local stores and viewed several TVs and made my decision to purchase this TV as this is the only one that fits my needs in terms of money and picture quality.
Even as I write this review let me tell you that No LCD TV is perfect yet but this one is pretty darn good! Here are some PROs and CONs
PROS:
- Excellent picture quality without having to tweak settings too much.
- For the price you pay this one doesn't look like a budget TV
- This is a 'Full Array' Backlighting LED TV The 'black uniformity' is pretty darn good .
- 4 HDMI ports - I needed more HDMI ports as I have too many external devices
- Very low input lag (26.5 ms) especially in 'game mode'
- Excellent up-scaling capabilities the up-scaled picture does not look soft or blurred.
- This TV has a sort of 'semi-gloss' LCD screen finish which doesn't reflect a lot of light
- Plays media using USB external HDDs up-to 2TB and supports various files formats
- Audio HDMI 'pass-thru' is possible to an Optical TOSLINK based Audio receiver
CONS:
- Severe judder especially watching 24p movies.
- 'Motion blur' is not that bad but still not as good as my plasma
- Gray uniformity is not bad with 'TH01' Samsung panel
- This is a 60Hz refresh rate TV Not so good for fast action sports
- Comes with only standard remote which can be a chore to use
- Does not do 3D (not that I care but still worth mentioning)
I am not going to post the best quality picture settings etc here since there are several other websites that have posted it already. The picture is actually pretty darn good right out of the box without having to tweak detailed settings, Having said, The major issue is the inability to play 1080p/24 signal properly as it can cause 'judder effect' especially while watching movies.
You can get rid of this judder by enabling Auto motion plus feature and set it to 'Smooth' but that adds 'Soap opera' effect which makes all movies look like crap. If your primary goal is to watch 'HD' action movies then this is NOT the TV for you.
Overall, In reality this TV gets a 3 ½ stars from my point of view but for fairness I am rating this with 4 stars for the best priced budget 4K TV from a trusted manufacturer like Samsung.
