I used to have a Lite-On 4X SATA Blu-ray ROM Drive 'IHOS104' which seemed like an excellent choice for HTPC owners like me due to it's super silent operation and good enough read speeds for Blu-Ray media but after about 5 years of use it stopped reading Blu-Ray media while it still continues to read DVD and CD media. I was looking for a replacement and this Blu-Ray Burner Rewriter 'WH14NS40' caught my eye on Amazon since Amazon has the best pricing on this bare drive.
Anyways, I put this on a old dell machine which I use as a media center PC and I am happy to report that it works like a charm. Since all the drivers and layers of application needed to play Blu-Ray media was already in place on my HTPC this was merely plug & play.

PROS
- Silent operation
- Good read & write speeds for Blu-Ray media
- Rips Blu-Ray media well without any need for firmware hacks (No Rip-locks in place)
- Good compatibility with various BD and DVD/CD media
- The drive looks totally different from what is pictured on Amazon it does not have the appearance as pictured. what you get is a product which looks similar to LG WH16NS40 SATA 16x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter. Beware that If you are planning to buy this based purely on the looks what is pictured on this product page on Amazon then you will be disappointed!
- DVD burn speeds are slow - Also could be because I have cheap DVD +R media?
- Longevity could be an issue if you do a lot of burns but in this price range looks like an disposable item to me.
