This Amprobe IR-710 Infrared Thermometer facilitates temperature measurement from a distance without contact with the object to be measured. This infrared thermometer is also useful for measuring temperature under circumstances where various thermocouples or other standard 'probe' type sensors cannot be used or do not produce accurate data for a variety of reasons. Some typical circumstances are where the object to be measured is in motion or where the object is surrounded by an EM field or in circumstances where the object is contained in a vacuum or other controlled atmosphere; or in applications where a fast response is required.
10:1 Distance to Spot Ratio:- This indicates the size of the area measured relative to distance away from the object being measured. If D: S is 10:1 as seen in the specs of this product then from 10 ft. away the area measured is 1 foot in diameter.
Don'ts:

Don'ts:
- DO NOT stare at the Laser beam - it can cause serious blindness.
- DO NOT let your children play with this device. THIS IS NOT A TOY!
- DO NOT use this device in very close proximity where strong EMF from arc welders,induction heaters etc;
- DO NOT use this device where Static electricity could damage the sensitive electronics.
- DO NOT use when the device is undergoing Thermal shock allow 30 minutes for instrument to stabilize before use
- DO NOT use in noisy temperature environments (avoid other High temperature objects being nearby) For example: you are measuring temperature of an IC, with a HOT solder-iron nearby!
Hints to Getting Accurate Readings:
- The target must cover the whole FOV (Field Of View) of the IR thermometer.
- Avoid shining surfaces (like metal) rough surfaces give better accuracy. Adding Electrical Insulating Tape (black is better) on metal surfaces can solve the problem and give accurate results. Be sure the tape is large enough to cover to Field Of View of the IR thermometer and wait for the tape to adjust to the temperature of the surface you are measuring.
- Try to be perpendicular to the target surface for better readings.
The product itself is well built and comes with a 9V battery factory installed and can be user replaced with ease. The back-lit display is awesome, had good readability and is very useful in dark areas. The only thing missing is a lanyard which could have been added for better grip & convenience.
Bottom-line: An excellent IR Thermometer for the price and highly useful product.
